I can hardly believe it, but it’s true — this week is the 1-year anniversary of my first record, Split Oceans, being released. I have A LOT of feelings about this ranging from pride about the project to disappointment I didn’t get to play it live as intended. The waves I’m feeling are wide and varied and colorful.
I want to take a look back at and share some of the press Split Oceans received in the last year. I’m proud of this part — even without the live touring aspect, some seriously humbling nods came my way!
Most recently, literally on the very last day of hellish 2020, the record got a mention in theartsstl.com by Mike Rengel — check out the blog post right here. Felt really good to be mentioned next to names like HAIM, Pheobe Bridgers, Bright Eyes, Doves, and US Girls!
Early last year, just before the record came out, I spoke with Christian Schaeffer and I spoke all things Split Oceans and the then-upcoming release. Head here to read that feature. That headline — wow! I was grateful then and I am grateful now — thank you to Riverfront Times and Christian for taking the time to listen and feature the album in their publication last January! That week, we had a great rehearsal for the record release party which happened on February 22, 2020 at Blueberry Hill’s Duck Room.
Here’s a pic from that night.
I was so happy to be celebrating the release with everyone there!
On that note…
I want to celebrate this anniversary with you all. I miss you. I miss the connection of live music and playing with my friends. Over the next week or so I will be posting some of my memories with the album on Instagram. I’ve already got some fun memories up there and I’ll keep going!
I wrote this record with you in mind — whether you directly helped on the project or indirectly with support from messages, likes, or listens, my gratitude is endless.
Thank you again for joining me on this journey. Can’t wait to keep going!
