When Maddie came to me it was right smack in the beginning stages of the pandemic in March of 2020. Moving everything online was an actual nightmare and I was already pretty full but she was the perfect fit and an ideal student to work with.

Chatting with her and her loving mom, Leigh, was a delight and I knew we would make a great team. Maddie is serious about studying music in college and we worked together to get her audition selections and process organized. Luckily Maddie was able to find several programs that would fit her dreams and desires. She got into all of the colleges she applied to: Berklee, NYU, The New School, and the Institute of Contemporary Music. It is SO impressive to me that she set the bar this high and DID IT!

Lessons with Maddie were exciting and enjoyable. We were able to dig into the anatomy & physiology of the voice and apply those skills to exercises & repertoire. She has a very powerful voice and is able to sing emotionally. We worked on songs by Bjork, Lake Street Drive, Amy Whinehouse, Mitksi, Paramore, Erykah Badu, Portishead, Lady Gaga, Gershwin, and more.

Her program includes:

I Can’t Say No from Oklahoma

Bang Bang by Sonny Bono

Baby Don’t Leave Me Alone With My Thoughts by Lake Street Drive

Liquid Smooth by Mitski

Human Behavior by Bjork

Speechless by Lady Gaga

Smoothie by Maddie Gartland

Baracudda by Heart

Helena by My Chemical Romance

Her bio reads….

Maddie Gartland is an 18 yo contemporary vocalist from Kirkwood, MO. She has been studying voice for 6 years at various places including School of Rock, Kirkwood Music Institute and Miss Natalie’s Vocal Studio. She has been a member of School of Rock’s house band for 5 years and selected for the nationwide All Stars program for 2 years.

Maddie was also a finalist in the St Louis Fox Teen Talent competition 2019  and was awarded the vocal performance award. She is currently a member of a riot grrrl band Chainsaw Boyz and the R and B inspired trio Music by MJA. In the fall she will be attending New York University to study vocal performance. Music is her greatest passion and hopes her music will help others in the way music has helped her.

I love her fashion sense, her desire to make her dreams come true, her intelligence, her strength, and her curiosity to learn more. I am grateful to have been a part of her journey and can’t wait to see her flourish. Congrats Maddie!!
